HEALTH AID POSITION
PART-TIME starting AUGUST 2012
SUMMARY: Responsible for the smooth and efficient operation of the K-8th grade nurse’s office. Provide for health care needs of students under the direction of a credentialed school nurse, including giving medications and providing general first aid. The Health Aid will help monitor first aid supplies, give out supplies to teachers, help maintain health records, call parents when students are sick, update student immunization records, send health reminders, create medication drop off logs, track medications and assist with school-wide health screenings. The Health Aid will also provide backup assistance to office staff including answering phones and helping people in the front office.

Job Task Descriptions |
| 1. Provide a welcoming and organized environment in the health office. Maintain records of students who visit the health room, have injuries, need medications, etc. Provide general first aid to students including giving out ice packs, taking temperatures, cleaning up scraped knees and bloody noses. Call parents when students need to go home due to illness or injury. |
| 2. Track first aid supplies and notify the office manager if more supplies need to be ordered. Distribute general first aid supplies to each classroom at the beginning of each year (including bandaids and gloves.) |
| 3. Help the office manager create a medication drop off log, check medications in on the log and in Infinite Campus (student information system.) Administer all medications including inhalers, pills, insulin, Epi pens, etc. Track medications as needed, including helping notify parents if meds are getting low. |
| 4. Send out health forms to all returning students each year. Track health forms coming back to the office and file in student cum files. Help compose medical reminders each year to be sent to the student body including reminders about immunization requirements, requests for parents to update medical information and reminders to parents to pick up medications at the end of the school year. |
| 5. Assist the school nurse with school-wide health screenings (vision/hearing) including creating schedules, maintaining records, acquiring needed materials and supplies. Enter in vision/hearing student screening results into the Infinite Campus student database system. |
| 6. Input and track immunization records, help compose and send out immunization notice letters, track immunization forms coming in, file forms in the student cum files. |
| 7. Provide back-up coverage to the front office including greeting, welcoming and assisting students and parents in the front office. Answer phones, provide information, take and deliver messages and direct callers to appropriate individuals. Assist visitors, answer inquiries, provide information and direct to appropriate school areas. |
EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must be a minimum of 18 years old.
Post-secondary courses in health and medical fields.
Minimum of two years experience in a medical field.
Experience working with elementary and middle school students preferred.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:
CNA licensure
CPR and First Aid certifications required.
Medication Administration training course required (provided by the school district)
Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance required

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:
Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals.
Operating knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel.
Operating knowledge of district student software required within 2 months after entering position.
